(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 05, 2014 ) Chicago -- Camera makers often release firmware updates to fix problems or add minor enhancements, but Fuji has issued a v3.00 firmware update for its flagship X-T1 model which adds a whole raft of new features and functions - but you are going to have to wait until December 18th before it's released to the public.

Here are the Fuji X-T1 firmware 3.00 update highlights - some of these are already built into the new Fuji X-T1 Graphite Edition, but the rest are new to both versions.
High-speed electronic shutter up to 1/32,000sec
So what (we hear you ask)? Who could possibly need a shutter speed that fast? The answer lies not with fast action (it's not designed for that) but shallow depth of field portraits in bright light, for example. Fuji makes a range of fast (wide-aperture) fixed focal length lenses which deliver beautiful 'bokeh' (the appearance of out-of-focus areas) in the background. The trouble is that you lose this if you have to close down the lens aperture in bright light, so the new, high shutter speeds allow you to keep shooting with the lens wide open, even in bright light.
Quiet shutter
If you don't like the noise made by the shutter, you can change the shutter sound, reduce the volume or turn the sound off completely.
Expanded Program Shift mode
The Program Shift mode is a great way to get the shutter speed or lens aperture you want without having to switch to shutter-priority or aperture-priority mode, but until now the slowest shutter speed setting was 1/4sec - the firmware update takes this right up to 4sec, which is ideal for night photography, dimly-lit interiors and low-light tripod shots in general.
Classic Chrome Film Simulation
We liked the Classic Chrome look in our Fuji X100 T review, and now this film simulation mode comes to the X-T1. Where Fuji's Velvia film simulation produces rich, vibrant colors, this one give a more muted look reminiscent of vintage slide films. You can use it to add a subtly nostalgic, historic look to your pictures.
Natural Live View function
Usually, the X-T1 will show you exactly how your images will look with your chosen image adjustments or effects applied, but some people might prefer the natural look of a regular DSLR's optical viewfinder - and that's just what the Natural Live View function is designed to provide. You can also adjust the color hue of the electronic viewfinder and rear LCD.
Better video
Currently the X-T1 can shoot at 60fps and 30fps, but the update brings 50fps, 25fps and 24fps modes - 24fps gives a 'cinematic' look, while 50fps and 25fps are very important in PAL regions (e.g. Europe) because users won't have to convert frames rates any more.
The update brings the ability to set the ISO before filming and you'll be able to adjust the shutter speed and aperture while recording.
Autofocus enhancements
The X-T1 has an Instant AF mode (you press the AF-L) button during manual focusing, and the update enables the X-T1's phase detection AF for faster focusing.
An "AF+MF" function brings 'seamless' manual focus override - you half-press the shutter release to focus normally, then turn the focus ring to make fine adjustments.
And in Spot metering mode, you'll be able to link the AF point with the spot metering area.
Software lock
If you're the sort of person who keeps pressing buttons when you don't mean to, you'll like this one - Fuji has added a 'software lock' function to stop you doing this accidentally.
PC tethered shooting
Fuji has also released a new version of its dedicated HS-V5 software (which you have to pay for, alas), which lets you control the camera from a PC - this kind of 'tethered shooting' is popular with professional studio photographers.

SoakSoak Virus Infects Massive Numbers of WordPress Sites

Abela advises that WordPress users only install the plugins that they really need. When there are many plugins, the site administrator has to keep up with installing updates for them. Old plugins can be a security risk. Sometimes an update can conflict with another plugin and cause problems. The more plugins used, the higher the risk of some plugins not working well together.

Similiarly, it is advised to make sure the site has the most recent version of WordPress. Updated versions will give more security. Older versions can corrupt a computer due to malware attacks. Be diligent about looking for and installing the updates as soon as they become available.

If a site administrator discovers that a Wordpress blog has been hacked, it is advised to take it offline right away. Hackers usually come through the comment area to upload malware. If a site has been hacked, delete the site and restore it using a pre-hack backup. If shared hosting is used, contact the web host and make sure that the hack was not due to a security hole in the server.

While many of us think of hacking as something similar to the 80’s cult classic ‘Wargames’, the reality is far different. Most hack attacks are run by "bots", software tools designed to look for exploits in a hardware infrastructure. The reality is there is very little coding going on, and not many hackers are coders.

The “Low Earth Ion Cannon” (LOIC) is one such tool, not particularly sophisticated the "LOIC" causes a simulated browser to constantly refresh. On one system alone, the program is mostly useless, but when 10,000 or more systems combine to DDoS one site the results can be catastrophic. Most recently, bringing down Sony’s and Microsoft’s live gaming services. Still, a far cry from what we imagine the first time we heard “shall we play a game”.

There is another less discussed, yet growing form of “hacking”. Parental monitoring software with enough features to make the NSA jealous. These applications are no doubt intrusive, invading chats, keylogging and sometimes even “listening in”. Are parents justified in the use of these applications? One can’t help but think of recent suicides due to online bullying, while attempted suicides are not reported; here are the facts. Almost 10% of teenagers have seriously considered attempting suicide, and 25% have experienced some form of online bullying. That does not include the 20% who have used some form of drugs prior to the age of 18, or the unknown number of those that have been sexually solicited online. Are parents who are discreetly monitoring their children’s online activity hackers?

Employers are increasingly monitoring their employees as well. While live GPS tracking may not be considered “intrusive” for a worker making deliveries, most cell phone monitors track much more. Chats, texts, phone calls and even photos and videos can all be sent to the employer in real-time.

These questions about ethical hacking fall into a grey area that make right and wrong fall under a blurry veil. Today's parent is faced with new challenges and little remedies, generation X could deal directly with school's principle and rectify nearly any problem. Social media is a tougher beast, it's nowhere, it's everywhere and the principle has little, if any control. The parental atmosphere has changed as well, firm discipline, a mainstay of the 70's parent has taken a backseat to a more sensitive approach. "Spare the rod, spoil the child" is seldom heard in the Millennial generation.

How yesterday's parent would have handled the problem of cyber bullying by a generation that can recall being spanked by the school's principle for name calling will never be known; but with new problems come new solutions. These solutions are foreign to most parents born in the 70's. It is an interesting generation gap, one generation has trouble changing their e-mail password without assistance, the other no longer uses e-mail. Parents today remain ignorant of these solutions at a heavy price.

The reality is that most recent teen suicides including that of Leelah Alcorn who chose to end her life by walking into traffic left a huge social media footprint. A footprint so large that, her death could have been prevented. Leaving a Tumblr note is how she decided to bid the world goodbye, a far cry from yesterday's suicide note, and, one that could have hindered her intentions. Modern problems require modern solutions.

Today's solutions are not so different than yesterdays. Yesterday, a parent monitored every aspect of their teen's life. Today's teen has another life, an invisible one, its public yet private, it never stops and everyone is listening. Insults which were once made in the locker room are now made in a public forum for all to see. Social pressure which was once a private battle is now public.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness website - "Each year in the U.S., approximately 2 million U.S. adolescents attempt suicide, and almost 700,000 receive medical attention for their attempt (AACAP, 2001)". Teen suicide attempts have also increased to their highest level in 15 years, begging the questions - have teens decided adulthood is not worth waiting for.
Solutions remain controversial. No parent wants to invade their children's privacy, yet the reality remains, they are children; and they're not aware that these challenges will pass.

Tools such as social media monitors allow parents to see exactly what's going on with their underage child. Not just what they are thinking, feeling and dealing with, but with what others are saying about them as well.
